Opening and navigating the panel

Last updated: September 4, 2026

The Highlight side panel is your entry point to all things Highlight.

Opening the side panel

To align with your preference, there are four ways to open the side panel.

  1. Hotkey: This is by far the fastest method to open and close the app. Cmd + . on Mac or Ctrl + . on Windows. Learn more about keyboard shortcuts here.

  2. Edge Activation: Push the cursor hard into the right or left edge of the screen (whichever side Highlight is docked to). Or, hover near that edge to reveal the arrow, then click it.

  3. Edge Activation + Arrow: Push cursor gently to the edge of the screen to reveal the arrow, then click it.

  4. Highlight Mini: Click the floating Highlight Logo, called "Highlight mini".

Adjusting your Interface Settings

If you wish to change the settings to more efficiently navigate to and from the side panel, there are several options.

Navigate to your App Settings —> Customization —> Interface

Hotkey - You’re able to setup a different hotkey option if the default doesn’t work for you. Select the edit button and record your new hotkey combination

Edge Activation - You can turn edge activation on or off here. When off, you will primarily rely on the hotkey or Highlight mini to open the app. If you turn it on, an arrow will appear when you move your cursor to the edge of your screen. This enables you to open the side panel by clicking the button which is called the Peek Trigger (👀). Lowering the edge sensitivity makes it harder to open the side panel, and an increased sensitivity makes it easier to invoke the side panel.

Highlight Mini - This is a floating “pill” with the Highlight logo that serves two purposes. The first, it enables you to open the side panel with a simple click, or to start a new chat or meeting. You can choose to have it always visible, always hidden, or visible only in meetings. When it’s visible in a meeting, it provides a constant indicator that the meeting is recording, and makes it simple to navigate back to the live meeting transcript if you’re looking at other history within Highlight.

Screen - If you use multiple monitors, this setting allows you pin the highlight panel to a particular screen (which you can adjust by moving it), or have it follow your cursor.

Adjusting the Side Panel

The Highlight Panel can be moved around, resized, or pinned to your screen. Here’s how to adjust those settings.

Pin toggle - At the top of the Highlight Panel, there’s a pin (📌) icon. When selected, it will pin the side panel to your screen until you intentionally close it. If the pin (📌) icon is not selected, the side panel will collapse when you click outside of the panel into another app or your desktop.

Closing the side panel - There are multiple ways to close the side panel, including using your hot key, unpinning the panel, or selecting the red x () at the top of the app

Resizing the side panel - To resize the side panel, hover over an edge to expand/contract the height or width. The panel can go to a full screen height or a half screen width.

Moving the side panel - You can drag the side panel up/down/left/right. It will always pin to the edge of your screen (left/right) and will retain the same vertical placement, width, and height. If you pin your panel to a screen, this is how you adjust which screen your panel shows up on.

Arranging and reordering panel sections

Within your side panel, you have control over the order of the sections. Each panel section (Upcoming, Reminders, Ready for you, Recents) are collapsable, expandable, and you can reorder them.

To collapse or expand a section, toggle the arrow to > (Expand) or ⌄ (Collapse) collapse the section. If you have more items than will fit in the visible section, select “view all”, which provides a full and searchable overview.

If you want to reorder the sections, it’s quite simple. Hover over the middle of a section name, select the name, and drag/drop the section to its new home. You can set these to match your work patterns. for example, if you have a meeting heavy schedule, it might be beneficial to have your upcoming meetings appear on top, so that you’re always ready for what’s next.
