Where to find Highlight

The side panel

The side panel is the main way you interact with Highlight. It slides in from the right edge of your screen and gives you access to everything — meeting briefs, reminders, action items, and chat.

How to open the side panel

There are two ways:

  • Swipe your mouse cursor to the far right edge of your screen. The panel will slide in automatically.

  • Click the Highlight icon in your app bar (Mac: menu bar at the top of your screen / Windows: system tray in the bottom-right corner).

How to close the side panel

Click anywhere outside of the side panel or click on the X button that appears to the left of the panel. The panel will slide back out of the way.

What's in the side panel

The side panel is organized into a few key areas:

Area

What it's for

Meeting briefs

Shows your upcoming meetings with a one-click prep brief for each — who's attending, what was discussed last time, and any open action items.

Reminders

These are commitments that were automatically captured by Highlight in a meeting, message, or doc. You can also add reminder items here for anything else you want to keep track of.

Actions

Auto-detected drafts of action items from your recent meetings. Review, approve, or dismiss them here.

Chat

Ask Highlight anything — about what's on your screen, your meetings, your documents, or any topic you're working on.

History

Logs your meeting history. Click here to review a meeting transcript or summary.

The menu bar icon (Mac) / system tray icon (Windows)

Highlight's icon sits in your menu bar on Mac or your system tray on Windows. It's always there, even when the side panel is closed. Clicking it opens the side panel instantly.

Opening settings

All of Highlight's settings live inside the side panel. To get to them:

1.  Open the side panel  —  Swipe to the right edge of your screen or click the Highlight icon in the menu bar.

2.  Click the three dots (⋯) in the upper-right corner of the panel

3.  Select Settings from the menu

From Settings, you can manage your connected calendar and integrations, adjust permissions and privacy controls, choose your AI model, customize notifications, and configure your account and billing.

Frequently asked questions

The side panel isn't appearing when I swipe to the edge of my screen.

Make sure Highlight is running — check that the icon is visible in your menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows). If it's not there, open Highlight from your Applications folder or search for it using Spotlight (Mac) or the Start menu (Windows). If the icon is there but the panel still won't open, check that Highlight has Accessibility permission in your System Settings.

I don't see the Highlight icon in my menu bar.

The icon can sometimes get pushed out of view if you have many menu bar apps. Try right-clicking other menu bar icons and hiding or rearranging them to make space. On Mac, you can also hold Command (⌘) and drag icons to rearrange them.

Can I keep the side panel open all the time?

Yes — the panel stays open as long as your mouse is over it. If you want it to stay pinned, you can lock the panel open by hitting the lock icon on the left of the panel. This is handy if you're using it during a meeting or while drafting a document.

Does Highlight have a keyboard shortcut?

Yes. You can set a custom global hotkey to open and close the side panel in Settings → Keyboard shortcuts. Once set, you can summon Highlight from anywhere on your computer without touching your mouse.
